Being a parent is already a difficult job, but when you’re one of the many invested in the burgeoning cannabis industry you unfortunately have to tread even more carefully. In a recent piece published by The Washington Post, Perry Stein speaks with four mothers who have banded together to form a support group where they frequently meet to discuss parenting in an age where the legal marijuana industry is on the rise.
Leah Heise, the embodiment of grit, takes the reins of the largest women’s group in the cannabis industry
Several times per month someone will ask me how can they break into the cannabis industry. They’ve heard how lucrative dispensaries are, and often people believe that that’s the only place to enter. Not true! Any of your existing skills and expertise can be aligned with the cannabis industry. The cannabis market is rich with job opportunities that don’t involve touching the plant. From writing to branding and graphic design there is not an area where your career cannot be formed. My interview subject Gia Morón of GVM Communications is PR Chair of the NY Chapter of Women’s Grow. Gia has a diverse skill set which includes time spent working in the entertainment and finance industries at firms like The Goldman Sachs Group Inc. With a desire to break into the cannabis industry as a nonuser Gia used her expertise in Public Relations to enter the market. Read on about her journey and advice to those wanting to enter the growing field.
Brenda and Tracey were drawn to the industry after transformative experiences with medical cannabis. Tracey is a cancer survivor herself and Brenda lost her father to complications from esophageal cancer. Tracey did not have access to the medicinal benefits of cannabis for cancer treatment until chemotherapy left her desperately seeking relief. CBD hemp oil immediately alleviated many of the treatment’s painful side-effects. Now cancer-free, she continues to use CBD hemp oil therapy every day. (Fortunately, CBD hemp oil is legal in all 50 states). Simultaneously, Brenda was beginning her research on THC and medical marijuana and how it could help her father in Rhode Island, which had an MMJ program. Becoming both educator and advocate for her dad as well as his doctors, she walked both her parents through the patient/caregiver process.
We’re back with our monthly installment of favorite social media posts from the Women Grow community in August. This month we saw a lot of action at the Signature Networking Events taking place across the country, but our chapter chairs, members, and followers showing up and speaking at many different cannabis events across the country. It is truly inspiring to see the how many of you are growing your businesses, pursuing your passions, and ending the stigma around consumption and use of cannabis.
Having come into my position as CEO right at the end of Women Grow’s second year in business, I will admit that I had some difficulty in deciding what direction to take with this second year anniversary message. I wrote numerous drafts, and spent many hours mulling over what I would say to you, our incredible members and community who continue to champion us. I decided, ultimately, to do some recognition.
