Communications, Harborside Health Center
Six years ago, Samantha Campos entered the cannabis industry as a communications consultant, assisting in writing licensing permit applications for dispensaries, and ultimately providing media services for Harborside Health Center, the nation’s largest model medical cannabis dispensary. As part of the media relations team, Samantha (along with Gaynell Rogers) helped Harborside secure positive coverage from major news outlets around the world, including CNN, the BBC, New York Times, Fortune magazine and the Discovery Channel–which aired a documentary series featuring Harborside in December 2011.
Her marketing work with Harborside involves conveying their extensive knowledge of cannabis history, products, science, innovations, politics, legal compliance and best business practices. She also helps regularly update departmental training and operations manuals, assists in maintaining social media accounts, and edits monthly newsletters for patients and staff. Harborside now has three locations—in Oakland and San Jose, Calif. as well as Portland, Ore.— and will soon open another location in San Leandro, Calif. They currently employ about 150 staff members, with over 200,000 patients in their database. Harborside is dedicated to diversity in the workplace, and is one of the “First 50” sponsors of WomenGrow.
With over a decade of experience in journalism, Samantha has written and edited for daily, weekly, monthly and online publications based in Hawaii and California. Her articles feature a vast array of subjects including the arts, education, health, agriculture, dining, sex/relationship, business, and lifestyle coverage. Because of this experience, Samantha offers editorial support for a wide range of communication needs. She currently resides in Oakland, Calif., with her longtime partner, Andrew DeAngelo.
