Rebecca Stamey-White

Partner, Hinman & Carmichael LLP

Rebecca is a partner with Hinman & Carmichael LLP, the preeminent boutique alcoholic beverage law firm. She is based in San Francisco, California but enjoys a national practice dedicated to representing the beer, wine, spirits and hospitality industries and their service providers. She loves working in an industry full of entrepreneurs, family businesses, startups and the creative artisans and scientists of alcohol and enjoys sharing her deep experience in alcohol beverage law with the cannabis industry, another industry creeping out of prohibition.

Rebecca has a particular specialty and interest in advising clients on how to run legally compliant and successful social media, promotions, marketing campaigns and events to create customer loyalty in a crowded marketplace and navigate tied house laws that prevent vertical integration within the alcohol industry. She also helps clients with state and federal licensing projects and defends against state alcoholic beverage control (ABC) and federal Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) investigations and accusations, which provide plenty of war stories to properly assess compliance risks and identify enforcement priorities to help businesses make informed choices in a regulated market.

Before becoming a booze lawyer, Rebecca did environmental and renewable energy policy work and strategy consulting and volunteered her time to progressive political campaigns. Rebecca studied history and international studies with a B.A. from Northwestern University and received her J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law. She frequently speaks at industry conferences, law schools and continuing legal education programs about the latest legal issues in the alcoholic beverage and cannabis industries. She is a member of the National Cannabis Bar Association and is a First 50 Founding Sponsor of Women Grow.
